Curtis Reeves, the man of accused of shooting and killing a man inside a Pasco County movie theater, will be back in court Thursday.
Reeves, 76, is charged with murder in the January 2014 shooting death of Chad Oulson. His defense team unsuccessfully argued in August 2018 that the case should be dismissed based on Florida's "stand your ground" law.
Reeves has been free on $150,000 bail since July 2014 and his trial has been placed on hold indefinitely. He's been wearing a GPS ankle monitor and is required to stay at his Hernando County home except for court hearings, visits to his lawyer's office, doctor's appointments and trips to the grocery store.
Reeves is now asking a judge to allow him to move freely through Hillsborough, Pasco and Hernando counties. The former Tampa police captain also petitioned the court to let him remove his ankle monitor.
His attorneys filed the motion, to be discussed in court today, because they say he isn't a "flight risk" or a danger to the community.
Reeves has also asked the court to authorize the transfer of possession and control of his firearms to his son, a law enforcement officer. Reeves said he's currently paying a monthly service fee to store the weapons, which has totaled nearly $5,000.
