Dangerous storm surge, heavy rains and strong winds are forecast across Louisiana.
As of the National Hurricane Center's 5 a.m. ET update, Tropical Storm Barry could become a hurricane tonight or early Saturday morning when the center is near the Louisiana coast.
Several warnings and watches are in effect throughout Louisiana. Gov. John Bel Edwards has also declared a state of emergency.
For Tampa Bay: Expect minimal impacts, with breezy conditions, slightly higher tides along the coast and periods of heavy rain. We'll be in the clear late Friday.
We're well into the swing of hurricane season. It's not too late to prepare a hurricane kit and have a plan in place should a storm threaten the area. https://on.wtsp.com/2Juz4qc
